In Kenya, millions of people struggle daily with a lack of access to clean water. For many, the only sources of water are contaminated rivers, stagnant ponds, or dry riverbeds. These unsafe sources are often shared with livestock, leading to widespread waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea.
Women and children bear the greatest burden, walking for hours each day to collect water—time that could be spent in school or earning a living. For students at places like Milimatatu Girls School, the lack of clean water creates dangerous situations, leaving them vulnerable to illness and unsafe conditions.
This crisis doesn’t just impact individual families; it holds entire communities back, perpetuating cycles of poverty and poor health. Without clean water, children can’t thrive, mothers can’t provide, and villages can’t grow.
At The Alta Project, we believe access to clean water is a human right and the foundation for building brighter futures.
Together, we’ve achieved incredible milestones, transforming lives and creating real change through clean water access.
